Tech Radar Launch

May 2025
·
Abhijeet Kesarkar

As part of our internal R&D efforts, we are launching a Fab Tech Radar to help us track, assess, and adopt emerging technologies that can help us identify high impact technologies, drive innovation and thought leadership.

You may already be familiar with the concept of a tech radar, our adoption of this process is focussed towards identifying and learning interesting technologies that are relevant to us.

The Tech Radar is structured around four key focus areas:

  • Languages & Frameworks: Programming languages (e.g., Java and Golang) and frameworks (e.g., React and Spring Boot) that are at the core of custom software development.
  • Methods & Patterns: Covers methods and patterns related to software development, including architecture (e.g. Micro Frontends), security, testing, organizational methodologies, and more. It may include non tech methods e.g. event storming for modelling business processes.
  • Platforms: Technologies focused on platforms, infrastructure, and services e.g. GitLab CI/CD.
  • Tools: Variety of tools, from small utilities to large-scale software project e.g. Figma, Snyk

Each technology is placed into one of four adoption rings:

  • Adopt – Tech we are actively using and recommend
  • Trial – Tech we’re testing in real projects
  • Assess – Tech we should actively explore and learn.
  • Hold – Tech we’re avoiding or phasing out

Some examples of what a radar could look like:

Cypress as a ‘Languages & Frameworks’ to ‘Adopt’ for test automation

OpenTelemetry as a ‘Languages & Frameworks’ to ‘Assess’ for observability

We Want Your Input!

We’re now opening up the radar for company-wide contributions. If you've encountered a tool, framework, method, library, or platform that you think is worth watching, assessing, or avoiding—we want to hear from you.

Please submit your suggestions here: Google Form link

You can submit multiple suggestions for the tech radar.

Each submission will be reviewed by the R&D team and considered for inclusion in the next radar update. We will publish the tech radar to everyone in the organisation in the coming weeks.

For any queries please reach out to the R&D Team

Thanks for helping us stay ahead of the curve!
